On February 22, 2022 Senegal's new stadium was inaugurated in Diamniadio in the west of the country, not far from the capital Dakar.
It is an ultra modern stadium with a capacity of 50,000 seats without the famous athletics track with a public close to the lawn, it is now the national stadium of the country. The new enclosure is entirely self-sufficient in energy because it benefits from a photovoltaic panel station.
Inauguration ceremony was done with great fanfare in a stadium full of crackers and former glories of world football; Didier Drogba (Chelsea FC), El Hadj Diouf (Liverpool FC), Pascal Feinduno (Guinea), Guyan Assamoah (Ghana), Khalilou Fadiga (Senegal), Aliou Cissé (Senegal) and many others. The gala match ended in a draw of 1 goal for each team, with the very first goal scored by the Senegalese Khalilou Fadiga.
In addition, President Macky Sall had the stadium named after former President Maître Abdoulaye Wade.
