The Colossus of Rhodes
The Colossus of Rhodes was a statue of Helios, the Sun God, in bronze, the height of which exceeded thirty meters, the work of Chares of Lindos. Remembrance of the victorious resistance to Demetrius I Poliorcetes (-305 to -304), erected on the island of Rhodes around -292, this gigantic effigy of Helios, tutelary god of the city of Rhodes, was overthrown in -227 or - 226 by an earthquake.
